Natural Plant Fiber Sisal:

The fibers used in woven rugs come from the leaves of the Agave plant (Agave sisalana), which thrives in Central America. Its commercial exploitation began around 1880. When the leaves are crushed, they release fibers that are dried and take on a creamy white color. Sisal fibers are used in the production of rugs, but also for other purposes such as ropes in navigation, because they are durable, strong, and elastic, and show resistance to seawater. How to take care of a Natural Sisal Rug:

Since sisal is a tough, natural fiber, dust cannot easily penetrate it deeply, so it doesn’t become a source of bacteria or germs. However, to keep the rug looking like new, it needs to be vacuumed regularly. Avoid mopping or cleaning it with steam. If a stain occurs, immediately apply a dry, clean cloth to blot the stain—do not rub it, as this may cause it to spread. Read more in our article about sisal rugs.
