The duvet, comforter, and blanket are essential elements of a warm and cozy bed during the winter. However, proper care ensures their long-term use and reduces the growth of microorganisms.

Especially if you're investing in high-quality fabrics such as goose down and wool, it's important to know how to wash and store them properly in the spring to keep them fresh for the next winter.

In this guide, you’ll find useful tips for each type:

Wool Duvets

Wool duvets are known for their natural insulation and ability to regulate moisture. To keep them in excellent condition:

Washing

  • Avoid using bleach.
  • Avoid frequent washing, as it may alter their natural composition.
  • If cleaning is necessary, prefer dry cleaning or hand wash with cold water and a special detergent for wool.
  • If washing in a machine, use a delicate fabric program.
  • Prefer lukewarm water (up to 30°C) and detergent for wool.
  • Avoid spinning in the washing machine, as it may distort the fabric.
  • Dry it horizontally in a shaded and well-ventilated space. Do not hang it as it may lose its shape.

Storage

  • Ensure the duvet is completely dry before storing it.
  • Store it in a cotton case and add natural repellents such as lavender or cedar for protection against moths.
  • Do not fold it too tightly to avoid losing its volume.

Down Duvets

Down duvets are exceptionally light and provide great warmth. To keep them fluffy and clean:

Washing

  • Prefer dry cleaning or, if allowed, machine wash with cold or lukewarm water and a mild detergent.
  • Avoid using bleach.
  • Use a large washer without a central spindle and select low spin cycles to protect the down. Alternatively, go to a professional cleaner.
  • Dry it well to prevent mold and unpleasant odors.
  • You can place it in the dryer at low temperature with clean tennis balls to restore the down's volume.

Storage

  • Store it in a well-ventilated space, avoiding plastic bags that trap moisture as it may cause mold growth.
  • Add sachets of baking soda or lavender for natural protection against odors.
  • You can store it in a zippered bag, but avoid pressing it too much to maintain its volume.

Cotton & Microfiber

These duvets are easier to care for and ideal for those with allergies.

Washing

  • They can be machine washed at temperatures up to 40-60°C, depending on the manufacturer's instructions.
  • Use hypoallergenic detergent and avoid fabric softeners to prevent fiber damage.
  • Dry on medium heat or under the sun for natural disinfecting.
  • Avoid bleach. Do not dry clean.

Storage

  • Store them folded in a cotton case to protect against dust.
  • Ensure they are completely dry before storing them to prevent bacterial growth.
  • If space is limited, use vacuum-seal bags.

Silk and Fur

Luxury and exceptionally soft silk and fur duvets and blankets require special professional care:

  • Do not wash them, and avoid excessive moisture, such as water.
  • For fur comforters, use a soft brush to remove dust.
  • Frequent airing is needed, in the shade, avoiding direct sunlight.
  • Only dry clean them at a professional cleaner.
  • Store them in a dry space with good ventilation.

Extra Tips for Longevity

  1. Air your duvets at least once a month to remove moisture.
  2. If there's a stain, clean it immediately with a soft cloth and mild soap.
  3. Do not expose your duvets to the sun for long periods, as it can damage the fibers.

By following these tips, your duvet will remain fluffy, clean, and ready to provide comfort for many years!
